Blood Angel Inceptors, Stormtroopers and general musings

I’ve been told to rest up by my GP as I’ve pulled some muscles in my stomach which have been causing me a lot of pain, which has meant I’ve not been able to get up to much recently (No final trip to Purple Rain at the Bikeshed , and  there goes my plan to start C25K this week!) It’s not all bad news however as this rest  has given me the opportunity to get a few hobby things completed, in particular my Blood Angel Inceptor Squad and more IA stuff.

Here’s the end results….

Inceptor Squad, ready for action

The squad sergeant, I just need to add some transfers to their shoulder pads!

I played another game of Imperial Assault using the App recently and I have to say I’m starting to really enjoy it.  The campaign mode is so different to Skirmish (which I have played most of my IA games as so far) and has a lot more depth to it. The app itself is fairly easy to use, though I wish it had an option to record the upgrades you’ve purchased to your characters so you can keep track of them.  I guess it reminds me most of games like Warhammer Quest and Heroquest and the fact it can be played as a 1 player game means that if you’re bored you’ve got something to whip out and play.

Playing the game more has also motivated me on to get more of the miniatures painted, and recently I painted up 3 Stromtroopers.  This was also a bit of an experiment to test out a paint scheme for Legion.

Stromtroopers? Here? I must warn the others!

I’m not sure what I’ll start working on next.  I have an Orc Blood Bowl team which I am keen to paint but equally I really want to paint up some of the new Necromumda miniatures, and there are always IA to paint as well.

What's on my painting table Part 2 - Luke Skywalker & Imperial Officers

“Everything has happened as I have for seen!” as the Emperor may say.  As predicted the snow fell today so I managed to get some more painting done.  I haven’t quite finished my Blood Angel squad (just some highlighting to go) but I did get 3 more Imperial Assault miniatures finished.

What's on my painting table? - Vader and the Grand Inquisitor

For the first time in a while I’ve managed to have a free Saturday to myself, which meant I could get some hobby stuff done.

I’m currently working through a back log of miniatures I need to finish painting so decided to focus on them.  Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get a lot completed today but I did get a good start on a Blood Angels Inceptor squad.  I was however able to finish a few Imperial Assault miniatures, in particular Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor (see below).

As snow is currently forecast for tomorrow I hope to finish off the Blood Angels squad, so unless anything else pops up I should be able to cross a few more units off my list.

I used a gloss coat on the armor of both miniatures to make it look more like plastic.

Vader can be a challenge to paint, being all black in colour.  The trick is to use grey shade to add subtle highlights to the armour to help it to stand out and add depth to the miniature.  This can be very tricky to do on a small figure such as Vader.

I decided to paint Vader’s eyes red after his appearance in Rogue One and Rebels.

I finished  Bossk  a few weeks ago but didn’t get round to photographing him until today.

What's on my painting table? Imperial Assault

It’s been a long whilst since I’ve updated anything on here but that’s not to mean that I haven’t been busy with hobby stuff. What this does mean though is that I’ve been busy with lots of other things, whether that be work, helping out in the shop or playing lots of games, so I haven’t had much time to sit down and get some painting done.

However I did manage to get a few miniatures painted, including these Imperial Assault figures (I also found time to finish another 3 Death Guard!)

I’m hoping I’ll get some more painting done soon and will share my finished results with you but in the meantime I hope you enjoy these pictures.  Until next time, Keep Calm and Re-Roll!

The finished batch!

Two Royal Guard.  I used 'Ard Coat" on the armor to give it a glossier finish to match how they look in the films.

Chopper! (Complete with wear and damage)

Rear view.

An Imperial Probe Droid (I have one more of these to finish painting)

What's on my painting table? - Roboute Guilliman

Over the Christmas break I managed to finish another miniature in my collection, this one being Roboute Guilliman.

I decided to paint him in gold armour, as in my 40k narrative I feel that Roboute is starting to show signs of delusions of grandeur since his return.  I picture him starting to mimic his father, The Emperor both in appearance and manor having helped in the creation of the Primaris Marines and being the Lord Commander of the Imperium.

For my Blood Angels he is seen as their saviour, after he helped them defend Baal, however some of the captains are starting to suspect Roboute Guilliman and the Primaris.

I’m fairly happy with how this miniature turned out though it’s not my best work and I’m not too keen on how the gold armour turned out.  Game wise he’ll be used as any allie for my Blood Angels, especially in large games.

What's on my painting table - Blood Angels Primaris Lieutenant

I spent this Boxing Day painting up the new Blood Angels Primaris Lieutenant, ahead of my next game of 40K.  Here’s the end result.

This Lieutenant is part of the 5th company.

My Imperial Knight also got a recent upgrade with the addition of a new missile pod for it’s carapace.

What's on my painting table - more Shadespire

It was payday this week so I decided to pop into my local Games Workshop during my lunch break and buy the Orruks Warband and dice (mainly to help me build a better Stormcast deck, but also because I like Orks!).

I wanted to get this warband painted up sap, and as I had a free weekend I thought that would be the perfect time to work on them, so here are the end results.

This orruck's pose reminds me of the plastic Orks you use to get in Space Crusade

Waaaagh!

No Orruk leader would be seen dead without blood on his weapons!

I decided to dirty up the armour of my Orruks to show that they'd been in Shadespire for a while and as such had been in several skirmishes.

I decided to paint my warband a lot darker than the yellow scheme GW went with.  Mainly to fit the darkness of Shadespire and make the Orruks look like much more of a threat.

What's on my painting table? - Plague Surgeon

This week I managed to finish painting my Plague Surgeon for my Death Guard army.  I decided to paint him a different colour to the rest of my Death Guard to try and make him stand out on the battle field and also to do it as a test to see what this colour scheme would look like for when I get round to painting Typhus and, at some point Mortarian.

What's on my Painting Table - More imperial Assault

This weekend I’ve been able to find some time to paint up a few more of my Imperial Assault miniatures (as well as finish my Kharadron Overlords Ether Chemist).

Boba Fett (for some reason I just couldn't get the focus right when taking this photo)

Better Boba Fett photo

Imperial Probe Droid

My second Jawa.

Utinni!
My next painting project will be to finish some more of my Kharadron Overlords and Death Guard though with the new Necromunda coming out I’m tempted to dig our my old Goliath gang and paint them up.
