Disco Vader VI - Vader's Hanger Bay tournament report

This week I took part in a Hanger Bay X-Wing tournament.  For those of you who are not familiar with this format, you get to write two squad lists (up to the value of 100 points) and choose which one you want to play against your opponent.  Each list must be different and you’re not allowed to use the same ship models, upgrade cards or elite pilots in each list (Though you can stick to the same faction).

Before each round you get to look at your opponent’s lists and then decide which of your lists you want to use.  This can be a challenge as one of your lists may do very well against one of your opponents but not the other, so you should do a bit deductive reasoning to try and deduce what list your opponent is going to play.  Once you’ve chosen which list you wish to use you lock its number in on your manoeuvre dial (A speed 1 manoeuvre for list 1 and a speed 2 manoeuvre for list 2).

These are the two lists I used (I went with Rebels for both)

LIST 1

Dash Rendar (36)
Outrider (5)
Manger Cannon (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
Trick Shot (0)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Targeting Astromech (2)

Fire control System (2)
Guidance Chips (0)

Juke (2)
Autothrusters (2)

Biggs Darklighter (25)
R2-D6 (1)
Adaptability (0)
Integrated Astromech (0)

I played three rounds in this tournament and used list 2 for each match.  I won my first game 100 to 0, playing against a Poe/Rey list.  The second game I also won 100 to 26 (With Biggs doing his job and being the only ship to be destroyed by soaking up all the attacks due to his special ability).  My final match was a lot closer.  And I ended up losing 51 to 100 (I had one B-wing left by the end who just couldn’t get an arc on anyone).

In the end, I finished 2nd which was a real surprise for me (And is also the highest I’ve ever placed in an X-wing tournament!).  My B-Wing/A-Wing/Biggs list seems to work very well.  It was a bit of a shame I didn’t get to use my Dash list but I’m already looking at some changes to it.  Mainly I’m thinking of giving Dash Expertise (then I can ditch the Recon Specialist for something else, maybe Lando crew) and dropping 1 TLT Y Wing for something else (Maybe one of the B-Wings?).  I was also thinking that in my 2nd list I could drop Crack Shot for Cool Hand, which would give my A-Wing the ability to still use Juke whilst stressed (Great If I’ve done a K-Turn).   All stuff to think about for the next tournament.

My winnings :D
