When GW announced the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 they mentioned
that there were going to be at least two new armies coming. Since then people have been speculating as to
what they could be, so I thought I’d through my hat into the ring and let you
know what they might be.
The first army that I think they might release (and I’m
certain this is a safe bet) is Chaos Renegades.
GW have already released rules for Renegade Knights so is seems like the
next sensible thing to do is expand upon this and do rules for other renegade
units such as traitor guard.
Thematically as well, with the narrative of 40K shifting to be focused
on the Imperium Vs Chaos it makes sense for there to be more chaos renegades visible
on the battlefield. With the Great Rift tearing the galaxy in two
you can easily picture once loyal Imperial Guard legions abandoning their hope
and turning to the Chaos gods for salvation.
This army is also a good cash cow for GW as they can do what they did
with the Genestealer Cults and release new sprues to convert already existing
kits into renegade ones.
The other army I think is certainly possible is a Khorne
themed one. Again this sort of makes
sense as 40K now has Nurgle and Tzeentch themed armies with the
Death Guard and Thousand Sons, so Khorne would make logical sense to be next (especially
as GW are keen to distance themselves from Slaanesh). If you look at Age of Sigma, again both
Tzeentch and Nurgle have Armies as does Khorne, and we already have a new plastic Kharn the Betrayer miniature. Now weather this
army will be Legion Specific, like World Eaters or more general will be seen
but I would be highly surprised if Khorne doesn’t get some love in the next
year or so. The only thing I see
possibly preventing this is the fact that the Chaos Space Marine Codex has
already been released and many of the Khorne Legions and units have already
been covered in that book.
So what do you think?
